MISS SOPHIE

TEACHER

Miss Sophie started dancing at the age of 3. Her journey began with Modern Theatre dance lessons which then progressed to Tap, Ballet and Jazz classes.

Sophie has successfully completed a number of ISTD examinations and also performed in numerous shows. By taking the subject of GSCE Dance at school, she quickly discovered her love for performing and teaching. She furthered her education by training at MidKent College which created many opportunities for her including performing and choreographing as well as gaining further knowledge and experience. She not only choreographed but took part in a performance for the Royal Opera House Conference in aid of maintaining the Arts as a core subject within education.

Having assisted teachers at a number of local dance schools she is now pursuing her dream of concluding her ISTD teaching qualifications at Rye Dance Centre and continues to take further vocational examinations.

Sophie simply loves watching our students developing their talents. She is immensely proud that they achieve so much from the hard work they devote to their lessons. Being part of a students dance journey, watching them flourish and sharing in their success whilst creating a strong rapport are just some of the many reasons Sophie adores teaching. For her, it’s not just a job but a passion.

MISS HANNAH

Principal | ISTD (DDE)

Miss Hannahs dance journey began at the age of 2.5 years old. After years of training and completing numerous examinations in ISTD Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre her love and passion for dance lead to several successful auditions at well known colleges across the country.

Upon acceptance at the Deborah Capon Performing Arts College she was trained by some world known teachers/examiners where she furthered her studies and gained all of her ISTD FDI (Foundation in Dance Instruction) and CDE (Certificate in Dance Education) teaching examinations in Ballet, Tap , Modern Theatre, Health and Safety, Child Development and Lifespan. Hannah also completed her final vocational exams in Advanced 1 and 2 Modern, Advanced 1 Ballet and Advanced 1 and 2 Tap. She also performed in the annual college shows and choreographic competitions where she won several awards.

Hannah has been teaching for over 15 years now. Her years have seen her successfully train and enter many different students for examinations with a 100% pass rate. She has also choreographed for shows & fete performances as well as being a guest teacher at a local primary school providing lessons for Healthy Living Weeks.

Having a dance school has always been one of Hannah’s ultimate dreams and goals. Becoming Principal of HI Dance Academy in Walderslade, Kent, has seen her build not just a dance school, but a very welcoming and friendly dance family whose main focus is to build children’s self esteem and confidence whilst providing professional, sound and technical training. Her mission is to ensure that ALL children feel welcome and enjoy the classes they do, whether it be as a hobby or more of a serious nature.

Dance has and always will be her passion and by teaching children she only hopes that she can share this with them, inspire them, encourage them and be a good role model. The most rewarding aspect of her job is not only watching the magic of dance give students the opportunity to grow into happy, confident, talented people but also giving them skills that can be transferred into all walks of life.

One of Hannah’s favourite quotes is, “I call my students ‘my kids’ because in our years together they aren’t just kids on my register. They become a part of my heart”. This quote really does represent what HI Dance Academy is all about.

Adult Classes

Our Dancercise and Tap lessons give adults the chance to keep fit and active in a friendly and pressure-free environment. Dancercise classes are structured to include a cardio warmup, a variety of exercises that focus on legs, arms and core with the use of props such as light weights and occasionally, therabands, culminating in a fun, exercise-based dance routine which concludes with a stretch and cool down.

Our adults have enjoyed learning a number of routines set to songs such as Footloose, Jump Around, Jai Ho and Hey Mickey! where they get an opportunity to experience different dance styles in a basic but beneficial way.

Similarly, our Adult Tap classes aim to build upon different steps and combinations every week which are usually incorporated into themed dance tuition, followed by a cool down at the end.

LYRICAL CONTEMPORARY

Tuition that focuses on expressing emotion and creativity. Combining Lyrical Ballet, Modern and Acrobatics, students gain an acute sense of artistic expression through fluid dance movements and unrestricted lines.

Our classes enhance skills such as balance, control and gracefulness. Each week students receive training which develops strength and flexibility and increases performance skills. They are taught different routines which quite often narrate a story or clearly display a range of different emotions.

Street

A fashionable, enjoyable and energetic dance style accompanied by the most contemporary music today.

Our Street classes provide students with the opportunity to learn different moves and choreography. Classes typically consist of a warm up followed by tuition in various basic hip hop techniques, which are subsequently incorporated into routines that build on a week by week basis. Street is highly popular at our school and is an excellent form of self expression. We have four Street classes for different ages and abilities- Little Boppers, Junior Street, Inter Street and Senior Street.

We teach different styles, including: Bashment, Hip Hop, Breaking, Popping and Locking, House, Krumping, Tutting & Waacking.

ISTD Modern

Our Modern Theatre classes enable children to learn skills such as leaps, kicks, turns and various travelling steps. This develops childrens’ flexibility, rhythm and strength in a fun and energetic way.

Modern dance is known for its theatrical qualities and is therefore commonly seen being performed on stage.

We offer classes from Primary to Advanced Levels and students can take examinations if they so wish.

ISTD Tap

Students have so much fun creating different rhythms with their feet and it is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic art forms. Tap dancing improves balance, core control and co-ordination.

Children can start with us from 5 years old and continue through to Adult Tap. Our adults thoroughly enjoy their tap lessons; it is a great form of exercise and boosts brain power.

We follow the ISTD syllabus and students have the choice of taking examinations from Primary to Advanced levels, should they wish to do so.

ISTD Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance genres. It’s an excellent way of developing strength, co-ordination, control and improving posture.

Our Teensy Toes Class for ages 2.5-5 years introduces basic Ballet, Music and Movement in a fun and imaginative way. Students can then progress onto our ISTD graded classes beginning at Primary level.

Everyone has the opportunity to take formal examinations if they wish to, presenting their set exercises and an exam dance to an external examiner.

We provide strong, comprehensive and enjoyable lessons in Ballet and always strive to achieve excellent results.
